Baby and kids bags

My new grandson Josiah needed a new diaper bag of his very own, so of course, Grammy had to make him one. He has a changepad and isn't the inside of the bag fun?

My other two grandson's, big brother Julian and cousin Elijah also wanted a bag that Grammy made for them, so we made matching backpacks.
Big brother Julian wanted a bee on his backpack.

Cousin Eli chose the snail. Both backpacks have lots of room on the inside and an outside pocket.

The Envelope Bag

This bag was designed by my daughter Bonnie. The outside fabric is a striped denim and a fabric flower. The bag is ready for fall. It's made of a canvas type fabric.

This is the red & grey striped bag has a real buckeye and fabric leaf on it.

This bag is for my niece Megan. This is also the denim striped fabric with a fabric leaf and buttons and beads.

Isn't this a fun fabric for fall?
Here are the red and grey bags You can see in the picture below how they look with the flap opened. Imagine the buckeye and leaf on the flap.

Red & Grey Bags

Below are red and grey envelope bags. They both have a zipper pocket and open pockets inside. Which one do you like better? I need to get a buckeye and leaf and put on the flap, right?

This is a drawstring bag. Pull the drawstring and it gets the gathered look at the top. There is a zipper pocket and open pockets inside.

Here is another drawstring bag with a real buckeye and fabric leaves. The outside fabric is red and grey stripe. There is a zipper pocket outside and inside plus open pockets inside.

This Envelope bag is made of the same fabric as the one above. It also has lots of pockets.

More Patchwork Bags

My friend Debbie wanted a patchwork bag she could carry. I helped her pick out her fabrics and went from there. We have a zipper closure and I put beads on the zipper pull. This turned out cute, didn't it?

A Callifornia girl, Lynette, decided she wanted a patchwork bag, only larger than any I had made before. She picked out her own fabrics and silk flowers and sent them to me. This is what I came up with. Lynette, I trust you are enjoying your bag.
Both bags have a zipper pocket and open pockets on the inside.

Gathered/Drawstring Bgs

This past spring I stitched up the black bag with hot pink fabric & polkadots. My daughter Ann saw it and loved it, so guess who got this bag??

A friend, Susan, saw Ann's bag and wanted one like it. I changed it up a bit and made a drawstring closure to make it easier to get into the bag. I used hot a pink with green polkadot fabric for the lining.
I liked that style so well I used a canvas fabric and made the bag below for myself.

Then I made the bag below that 10 yr. old Courtney talked her mom into buying for her.

Another friend who is a new mom, Holly, saw my green bag and wanted one to carry with her. She can slip a couple of diapers and a bottle into this bag if she wants to.

I like to put an outside zipper pocket, an inside zipper pocket and inside open pockets on all my bags. I love to use fun fabrics inside for the lining and different surprise fabrics for inside the zipper pockets.

Bags & Things for Bonnie

While Bonnie was home this summer, we bought her a Kindle to use in Germany. She needed a case for it, so I made the one shown below. We put a pocket on the back to store her cords in and it is padded with velcro closures.

Bonnie also wanted a couple of bags made for some friends of hers. She picked out the fabrics and we made this floral gathered bag with the green & black flower.

We aksi nade this messenger bag with a flap. Both bags havean outside zipper pockets, an inside zipper pocket and some open pockets.

Bonnie said both her friends loved their bags.

Sewing for Bonnie

I've been busy all summer and I haven't posted any new blogs. It's time I do so. My daughter Bonnie was home from Germany for a few weeks and needed a bag to go with the new dress she purchased to wear to a wedding. She drew up a picture of what she wanted and I came up with the bag shown below. She really enjoyed this small red bag. We put a handle on it so she could carry it with the handle, or tuck it inside and carry it as a clutch.

She thought having a larger purse in the same style would be great, so we came up with the below bag and I stitched it up right before she returned to Germany. She said many of her "girls" like the bag.
Both bags have a zipper outside pocket in the back and a zipper pocket and open pockets on the inside.

Spring Bags

The Hobo Bag below was custom made for a friend. We made it just big enough that she can slip her Bible into it.

These two bags were made for Kelly Designs, a shop Kelly Spallinger has started on Route 309.
Do you think they will sell?

This bag was made for an aunt. It is interesting that I can use the same pattern and make bags for all ages.

A friend asked me if I could make a bag similar in style to a purse she loved and this is what I came up with. You can see below that it is open with a magnetic snap, but gathered around the opening. The brown and pink turned out cute.

I really like this black and white bag. Notice I used a white and black panel at the end of this bag.

Here are some Messenger Bags custom made for friends and family. The black and pink bag on the right was custom made to carry scrapbooking pages in. There is a zipper pocket in the back and 2 small pockets in front.

The brown and blue bag has a flap ,
while the orange and black bag is reversable, with a zipper pocket inside and out. Both have the cute tie handle.

The bag below was custom made for a mature woman needing a thin,
lightweight bag that she could easily get into. It has a flap. with a zipper
pocket on the outside.

Evening Bags

My daughter Bonnie told me I should make some evening bags for high school girls going to prom this spring. I thought I'd make a few. Here are the first 3 I made. Each has a pocket on the inside. The first one is gold sequence and is small, measuring about 6" x 5".

This bag is a pink & gold paisley. My daughter Ann said it is her favorite. She suggested making a strap for the wrist. This bag measures 8" x 5".

This bag also measures 8" x 5". It is silver and black with a black satin interior.

I will charge around $20 for these bags.

Custom Made Bags

Here are some purse I've been working on this past month. Below is a bag with a Southwest theme. A relative asked me to make one and this was the result.

?
A friend is going to Disney World and needed a backpack, so I made this for her. She picked out her material and pattern.
My sister wanted a big, roomy bag and I made this. The strap has a tie and has the lining material on the underside of it.
Many people have wondered how much I charge for the bags I make. A lot depends on the style, material used and time it takes to make it. I usually charge around $50 - $60.

Look alike Bags

Below are two purses very much alike. I made one for a friend of my daughter's, however, after I began making it, I realized it was probably too small for her (10" x 8"), so I made a larger one.
This purse measures 13" x 9 1/2". Both have a zipper pocket inside and 4 pockets on the opposite side. Both have zipper closures.

Messenger Bags
This is aMessenger Bag I made for my daughter's friend. She explained what she wanted a flap (see below) and helped pick out the fabric and we came up with this. This has two zipper pockets inside and a pocket on the back.

A friend from work wanted a bag to carry her files in. This is basically the same pattern as above, however made a little bigger. There are no pockets inside, but one zipper pocket on the back.
